I tested last night and advanced to orange belt!! Yippee! Troy was there and he took some pictures on his phone, and I'll have to get him to email them to me so I can post them. Me in my sparring gear - what a riot!
Most of it was pretty easy, really. I mean, heck, I've been a yellow belt for 9 months, I should hope I would at least have SOME idea of what I'm doing. We did our punches and such for Mr. S., then our kata. The hardest part was the sparring! Mr. S. decided that we should do three 2-minute rounds instead of the usual two that are required for the belt test. I gotta say, I thought I was going to pass out after the first round. I realized that things were starting to go a little wonky-looking and that I was hyperventilating, so I made a concerted effort to slow my breathing down while Julie, my homeschooling karate mom friend, was doing her round. I didn't want to hit the floor head first during my second round! (Luckily Mr. S. let us trade off rounds instead of doing all 3 back-to-back. Otherwise I'm afraid I'd have had to call a time out!)
It was great, though. I felt really good and Mr. S. had some great compliments about my sparring style.
Unfortunately, we didn't actually get our belts last night because Mr. R. wasn't there with the keys to the cabinet. So we'll actually be advanced next week. I gotta say, I really enjoy doing this. There's such a sense of accomplishment!
OK, pics will post later! (I know you're on the edge of your seat!)
